Menu Planning - January 9 2017
Mama B
Good morning!! Running behind a bit this morning...as if that is something new. In trying to decide whether carrying on with my menu plan was worth the work I put into it, I sought advice from My Man. Turns out he loves the menu idea. He says he enjoys the variety, with the occasional family favorite thrown in the mix, and that he appreciates the work that I put into it. Who knew?
So, I am back to writing out my menus for the month. I am going to be changing it up a bit. I should probably go back and reread the posts I have done on my menu plan to refresh my memory on what I have already shared, but what the heck... let's just start over anew!!
My Menu Plan:
I make out my menus for a month at a time. We only get paid once a month so I do one huge, major grocery shop a month. In this adventure, I buy all non-perishable items on the menu. I set aside $35 a week for the perishables and anything leftover from that goes into an envelope to be used for sales during the month. I try to save a couple of dollars for the caselot sales that happen once or twice a year. So far this has not worked out because I have not been as diligent as I should be. This is about to change.
I really wish we could coupon here in Canada like you can in the States. It would save us a bundle!! (If any of our Canadian readers coupon, could you pass along your how-to knowledge, please.? It would be greatly appreciated!)
Our breakfasts are almost always the same, either oatmeal, a non-sugary cold cereal like shreddies or corn flakes, or eggs. Lunch is usually a sandwich or sometimes a smoothie. I don't include those meals in my menu plan. The things i use (sorry, i seem to have lost the shift capability on my tablet, so some things won't be capitalized like they should be. I'm not sure what i did. 🙁) for those meals are always included on my grocery list.
I find it works for me to have assigned meals for the days of the week:
Mondays - beef
Tuesday - miscellaneous.
Wednesdays - chicken
Thursdays - seafood
Fridays - ground beef
Saturdays - soup/ salad & sandwich
Sundays - leftovers
Tuesdays are titled miscellaneous because on those nights, we have our comfort foods, like homemade mac and cheese, perogies, etc. We don't eat a whole lot of pork, so i occasionally serve ribs or ham on tuesdays.
Sundays are leftovers, or anything that may have been prepared in advance and frozen like cabbage rolls. I try to keep my sundays as work free as possible. I don't work on the blog on sundays, nor do i go on pinterest on sundays, usually.
You will notice that thursdays are titled seafood and there is no seafood in that meal. I am the only one in our household that eats all seafood, the others are uber-picky about what they will eat, so on occasion, there will be two meals listed for that day, one for me and one for the picky ones. It works.
This startover menu is pretty boring, as it is a clean out the fridge and freezer week, and many of the recipes have already been posted on the blog. Sorry about that.
Hope you find some use/help out of this.
Enjoy your day.
Monday: Yorkshire Stew
Tuesday: Homemade Mac and Cheese
Wednesday: Coca-Cola Chicken, Smashed Garlic Potatoes
Thursday: BBQ Salmon Steaks, Oven Roasted Potatoes
Friday: Spaghetti
Saturday: Clam Chowder, Dinner Buns
Sunday: Leftovers
