Organizing: Kitchen
by Mama B
I have mentioned before that my kitchen is so small that I have no drawers in it. I had used a bookshelf and baskets to organize those items that are usually kept in drawers. I had a cardboard box on top of my fridge for my miscellaneous kitchen gadgets. All these drawerable(?) items were taking up valuable real estate in my cupboards and on my counters.
One day, as I struggled with the clutter, I wished for a dresser instead of shelves. Later that afternoon, there was a knock on our door and it was our neighbour, Chris. He had been to the local free store where he had found a chest of drawers and brought it home. His wife didn't want it and he came to ask if I wanted it. He said it was old and in need of a few repairs, but it was made out of wood and not particle board and if I wanted it, he would fix it for me. I went and took a look at it and it was exactly what I had in mind, right down to the big round drawer pulls!! Chris fixed it up and delivered it to my door.
It is in need of a light sanding and a coat of paint and I will get to it eventually, but I was impatient to get it into the kitchen. I cleared off the shelves and when I moved them out of their place, they protested by falling apart. I am hoping to salvage them, but as my boys said, they are made out of particle board and therefore probably not reuseable.
I love having drawers in my kitchen once more! A lot of space has been freed up and I can now reorganize my kitchen. I got started on it right away, and it's not finished yet! I found it to be one of those snowball effects; this can go in the drawer and then this can go in that space and that will go in this space, etc etc, you get the picture!
Now, I just need to remember what is in which drawer!
