New Beginnings
Mama B
Mama K and I were brainstorming ideas for the coming year on our blog and the topics of organizing and spring cleaning came up. If you have been following our blog, then you know that I did some organizing last year in the bathrooms and that I switched the hall coat closet from my pantry back to a coat closet and put the pantry under the stairs where we had just shoved every and all things that didn't have a home so it would be out of sight. Sad to say, we still shove things in there and it is getting harder and harder to find my pantry stuff. Another under the stairs purge is on my to do list for 2017. Right now, My Man and I (with help from our son, Damian) are attempting a complete change and purge in our small living room/ dining room area of the townhouse we live in. It has been a long time since we had such small living quarters and we are in need of a drastic downsize, yet again. We don't have a sofa, nor a love seat in our living room area. We do have My Man's recliner, my rocking chair, and the big armchair that Damian uses, along with one other small chair just in case someone comes to visit. If more than one person comes, then they can either sit on my wicker trunk that houses our extra blankets, or I will pull out the chair I use when I sew. The reason that we are doing this now is because we received an android box and a smart tv for Christmas from our kids. We did away with cable for the tv a few months ago, to save money. The android box is interesting and we can still watch our favorite tv shows and movies through the internet. However, when we had the cable disconnected, it meant that our internet service could only come into the house through the phone jack and the only phone jack downstairs is in the kitchen. There is a half wall between the kitchen and the dining area of our place and therefore the internet box sits across the room from the tv. The android box is wifi capable, but we found that because everything else we use is wifi capable, it weakens the signal to the box. Anyways, to make a longer story short, we need to plug the android box into the internet box and so we are switching the areas around and the dining area is going to become our living room and the living room space is going to become the dining room space. You would think that that would be a simple switcheroo, but, of course, nothing I do is simple. We don't use the current dining space for dining. We don't even own a dining table, or even a kitchen table for that matter. That space is currently used as my crafting area, and what a mess that is! It is my hope that as we move things around and the bigger living space becomes my crafting area, I will be able to organize and get rid of stuff that hasn't seen the light of day for the two years we have lived here. In order to start all this, I had to take down our Christmas tree earlier than I liked and pack away all our Christmas stuff. This saddens me. However, I did get to indulge in a new bin to store the tree in and I picked up a smaller one that i thought would hold my fabric stash. I know - silly me - I am going to pick up two more bins this morning. So that is our plan for the next two days. Of course, I will clean as I go. Walls will be washed and floors under furniture that never gets moved will be cleaned. Pictures and other things that hang on the walls will be taken down to be moved around and will be cleaned as we go. For my cleaning I like to use homemade cleaners, and my favourite all- purpose cleaner is 1/2 tsp Dawn dish soap,4 tbsp white vinegar and 2 cups of warm water. Mix it all together in a spray bottle and you are good to go. You can add 2 tsp of baking soda to this, but I don't and it works just fine. There are so many good homemade cleaner recipes on pinterest. I have pinned a few to our pinterest board " Household Organizing". So, I will keep you updated on our progress as we organize, reorganize and do our spring cleaning!! |
