Crafting: Baby Steps
Mama B
Well, I can't put it off any longer! I am a top notch procrastinator and have been doing just that when it comes to my crafting area. I am over run with supplies that need to have their own homes in this area. My family have been more than gracious in letting me take over what most people would use as a dining area in our townhouse. It is time to take action!! You could call today Baby Step #2 as I have already begun this process by getting the tomato boxes covered so they look amazing instead of messy. This morning, I pulled out as many of my patterns as I could find and filed them away. I actually don't have all that many as I have just begun to sew after a 20 to 30 year hiatus from all things crafty, artsy, and sewy. I had them shoved everywhere, and I am sure that I will be finding more as I organize my way through my mess. One of my biggest stumbling blocks in organizing certain things is stopping to reminisce over them. For instance, I have a pattern that I bought off of etsy a couple of years ago. It is for doll carriers. I had bought the same pattern when our oldest daughter was of the age to play with dolls. How long ago was that, you ask? Well, let's just say that HER oldest just got his own apartment. Now, I have the opportunity to sew some for my granddaughters. (A new granddaughter joined our family yesterday!! So excited!!!) Not only do I have sewing patterns, but I also have knitting, crocheting, quilting and embroidery ones as well. I have never mastered any technique for shoving the tissue patterns back into their envelopes, so I use large Ziploc bags for the ones that defeated me. Those ones will go into one of the newly upgraded tomato boxes. The ones that I managed to get back into the envelopes are currently residing in a couple of shoe boxes. I am thinking that I just might splurge and invest in a few of the pattern storage boxes that our local fabric store sells. I found the best knitting pattern storage binder at a yard sale a few years ago and I love it. I have filled it with all instruction booklets on knitting and crocheting, as well as the patterns on the insides of the yarn wrappers and I keep it in my knitting bag. I have pinned some pattern storage ideas to our blog's pinterest board for those of you in need of some help in this area. I might even give some of them a try! |
